Secure Web Conferencing for Policing
NCALT Live! is the latest learning technology available through the Managed Learning Environment (MLE) that delivers national and local online training, meetings, briefings, web conferencing and desktop video conferencing. It is interactive, easy to use, inexpensive and operates with complete security over the criminal justice extranet (CJX) network.

NCALT Live! Allows Users to:
- Communicate as if you are "face-to-face" with members of the policing community anywhere, anytime
- Share documents, make presentations, demonstrate products and services, and collaborate on ideas
- Instantly run a secure web training session or meeting from your desktop
“NCALT Live! removed the need for travel, is surprisingly cheap, and can be set up in a matter of minutes. It allows us to deliver training and business critical information quickly and consistently to remote audiences who, in the past, may not have had access to information because it wasn’t financially viable or facilities were not available.”
Lee Webber (Avon and Somerset Constabulary)
Configured for National Policing Environment:
NCALT Live! provides a secure national solution which is based on a recognised communication platform and has been configured specifically for the Policing environment. Unlike other internet based systems, the NCALT application has been installed and is accredited to RESTRICTED level of protective marking, giving all Forces the ability to communicate and interact securely. The underlying system is an installation of Adobe Connect Pro which is hosted on the NCALT CJX web servers.
“Excellent…”; “Exceeded my expectations”; “I’ve learnt a lot – it was inspiring.” ; "It saved money, but still allowed the teams to feel like we’ve had an away day"; "I hope that we can continue to use this technology for future meetings, presentations etc "
Comments from an Online Virtual Away Day, Sukhi Mann, NPIA
Technical Requirements:
The only technical requirement for Participants, apart from a CJX enabled computer, is the Adobe Flash Player, which is already installed on most force networks creating very little technical challenge of using the system. NCALT offers support to meeting hosts should they require training in the use of the technology including installation of webcams and headsets which are optional.
Implementation Support:
As with all learning technologies, communication and training is key to successful implementation. NCALT can, on a cost recovery basis, help to manage the roll out and build capability to ensure each Force achieves maximum benefit from the system, specific to their needs.
“I set up a very basic session whereby I enlarged the Camera/Voice box and put up a .ppt slide of a meeting agenda. We then successfully broadcast across Essex the Nexus AGM with an open invite for all to attend to see the speakers. This was introduced by our Chief Constable Jim Barker-McArdle.
The session was an outstanding success with excellent feedback coming from all angles. However, they haven't seen the best bit yet as we were able to record the speeches and we are looking to make them available both online again as well as sending the committee of NEXUS a DVD compilation of all the speakers. Brilliant!”
