Performance and Conduct E-Learning Meets the Demand...

The Performance, Conduct and Standards of Professional Behaviour (PCSPB) Regulations received royal assent in May 2008 and were implemented nationally on 1st December 2008. They provide police officers with a framework for appropriate behaviour and conduct in the workplace.  To meet this important training need, the National Centre for Applied Learning Technologies (NCALT) was commissioned to produce an e-learning package on the regulations delivered via the NCALT Managed Learning Environment (MLE).

Since its launch the course has proved to be a great success with widespread adoption and encouraging feedback received from learners. Detective Inspector Glenn Tunstall from the Metropolitan Police Service Directorate of Professional Standards and one of the PCSPB subject matter experts has been impressed with the product and its implementation locally. Glenn stated, "The response has been very positive. Over 22,000 MPS officers have already completed the training online via the MLE. We've observed extensive usage amongst both practitioners and the 'rank and file officer' aiming for career advancement."

Most forces across the UK are now making PCSPB a mandatory package and usage nationally is fast approaching 40,000 e-learning completions.  The package is easy to use and contains valuable advice and guidance from senior officers, as Glenn points out, "The mixture of videos and charismatic speakers appealed greatly to the audience."
This is an approach NCALT will continue to pursue on future projects as they seek to meet the high standards of e-learning design and delivery that police officers and staff have now come to expect.
