Olympic Training Update
NCALT has released two of three Olympic Awareness modules, Tri-Service Awareness and Police General Awareness, which have been developed to help the service prepare for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Games will affect every force in the country, either because of the Olympic Torch relay, the fact that they are a venue force or because of the parallel events that will take place in their area.
All police officers and police staff are required by AC Chris Allison, the National Olympic Security Co-ordinator, to complete both modules prior to the arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay in the UK on the 18 May 2012.
The third and final module, Police Operational Awareness, is currently being developed and will be available in Spring 2012. In addition, the Airwave training package aimed at all mutual aid officers being deployed in London will be available in early 2012 and will familiarise officers with the Olympic handset.
The Olympic Awareness training aims to help the service deliver a consistent and coherent ‘look and feel’ to the safety and security operation and demonstrates the services’ commitment to ensuring that the Games are delivered safely, securely and in keeping with the Olympic spirit.
Talking about the unique challenge that the Games represent to the service AC Chris Allison, has reiterated the need for ensuring officers are ‘fully prepared and motivated’.
